665 Management of Epistaxis Patients After Nasal Pack Removal - Quality Improvement Project

Abstract Introduction Epistaxis is a common emergency and treatments include cautery nasal packing. NICE guidelines recommend Naseptin® (chlorhexidine neomycin) routine practice to perform if bleeding point identified following pack removal. Method Retrospective analysis of electronic records over 9-month period 114 patients admitted with epistaxis. Results Demographics: 65 male, 49 females (roughly 13:10 ratio), an average age 72.5 median age: 76. 8 had 2 presentations epistaxis (3 SPA ligation on repeat admission). 97 were packed, 17 no packing performed. Reasons for admission without was observation after (7), (5) under medics non-epistaxis issue (5). Of discharge summaries, 90% naseptin prescribed. patient medics, only 60% discharged naseptin. 70 (61.4%) cauterized, 16 (14%) examined, but required, 28 (24.5%) documentation examination or attempt. Conclusions The majority are receiving room improvement. Although small sample size 5, greater portion medical naseptin, better handover required. Almost quarter did not have any attempts.
